日本は災害立国。多くの災害に対峙してきて、発展してきた珍しい先進国です。しかし、よく考えてみると、その歴史が文書として記録されるようになったのは、1,500年くらいのもの。そうすれば、2,000年周期以上の災害は、記録されていないことは明らかです。そこを解決していくのが、一つの研究課題になりつつあります。
